bits of splendor

Growing up, we didn't really do fancy. We didn't go out to eat, didn't go to movies, see plays, or dress up. Actually, when I think about it, we didn't really leave Torrance...or more like North Torrance.

Yesterday, my family and I went to the Getty Museum AND ate at a super fancy restaurant. Totally out of our comfort zone. It was a late Father's Day gift for my dad. He's an artist, a chef, an ice carver, and a total homebody. He's been wanting to go and get some ideas for his sumie paintings. So what better place than the Getty? Jimmy and I have been there several times, but it was my parents' first time. And I think they enjoyed it.

The restaurant at the Getty had a great view and the food was delicious. I was a little apprehensive about taking Blee to a nice place right smack during his nap time, but he did well.

I ordered a french toast and Jimmy order the duck chilaquiles.

Me, Blee, and my parents.

While in college, I had to memorize 200+ paintings including the artist, time period, and title for my final. It was a pain in the you-know-what, but then again, it was kinda nice to be able to recognize many paintings at the museum. The painting below by Claude Monet is one of my favorites.

After walking around for over and hour, we headed outside to enjoy the weather and their beautiful garden.

We're definitely not a pro at being fancy, but I think we did pretty well. Next stop...the Getty Villa!
