concerts at LACMA

Crossing things off my to-do list is one of my small everyday joys. It gives me a sense of satisfaction, the I-actually-did-something feeling. Jimmy and I both like lists, so when he told me about Wunderlist, I was pretty excited. Wunderlist is a task management tool that you can use online and on your phone. You can categorize your lists by work, home, shopping, kids, etc, and even share your list with other people.
This summer, Jimmy and I created a Summer 2012 list together. This was in addition to the one I made (that was more for Blee). We had a hodgepodge of things we wanted to accomplish, like things for our house, places to go, and people to call. With 3 more weeks of summer left, we revisited the list and tried to see what was possible.

First up...Free concert at LACMA and dinner from Mendocino Farms (Jimmy's favorite sandwich place). Jimmy heard about the free concert from his co-worker and since Blee loves to listen to music and dance, it was the perfect activity. Plus, the weather was absolutely gorgeous!

The music was blasting when we got there. Here's Blee dancing his little heart out to the Afro-Cuban Jazz Project.

For dinner, I had the Summer Cubano (slow braised carnitas, prime honey ham, Mendocino Mustard, housemade pickles, Cuban mojo sauce, crispy plantains on Dolce Forno's soft roll) sandwich from Mendocino Farms...

Jimmy had the Farm Club (oven roasted, hand carved local farm turkey, mashed avocado, applewood smoked bacon, herb aioli, tomato, Scarborough Farm’s greens, pickled red onion on Mom’s whole wheat)

We also got the "secret" sandwich called PB3...it had peanut butter, bacon, bananas, apples and almonds.

My son tries very hard to avoid taking pictures with me...

What a punk

It was the perfect day to relax, have a picnic, and listen to good music.

After dinner, Blee and I walked around to check out the band. It was pretty difficult to maneuver through the crowd.

We liked this guy the best.

After about 2 hours, we packed up and walked over to the famous levitated mass. Pretty crazy stuff. I was a little nervous to when we were under the darn thing...good thing I survived.

The free summer concerts are going on till the end of October. They have Jazz on Fridays and Latin music on Saturdays, both starting at 5pm. Be sure to check it out! (and bring a bottle of wine or two!)
