2012 - 2013 school year

The 2012 - 2013 school year marks my 9th year in teaching Special Education. 9th year. That's a long time. I remember my first few years of teaching...crying in my car over student behavior and achievement, or over difficult parents and co-workers. I doubted myself over and over with my decision to become a teacher. Lesson planning stressed me out like no other, and driving to Office Depot at 7am to make copies was part of my morning routine.

Now, 9 years later, I am much more confident. I can't say that I'm a better teacher or that I am making any difference in the lives of my students, but I feel comfortable in my class. I've found different ways to show my students that I care.

Becoming a parent definitely forces you to see things differently. I often catch myself thinking, How would I want my son's teacher to treat him? and Am I making the most of our time together?

As much as I'm going to miss my long days with Blee, I'm excited to start the new school year. I am thankful that I have a job that allows me to interact with kids, and I pray that my classroom will be a place where my students feel safe to learn and grow.

2012 - 2013...I'm ready!
